Solving Systems of Linear Equations

Lesson:

205 - 1 Hour 25 Minutes

Summary:The focus of this lesson is the solving of systems of linear (first degree) equations. The equations in a system are studied together and the methods, both graphically & algebraically are explored.

After this lesson, you will be able to:

  • identify the three types of systems of linear equations:
  •      - consistent and independent
         - consistent and dependent
         - inconsistent
  • solve systems of two linear equations graphically to find the ordered pair common to both graphs.
  • solve systems of two linear equations algebraically using the:
  •      - substitution method
         - comparison method
         - addition or subtraction (elimination) method
  • solve systems of three linear equations by algebraic methods.
